Mask mandate - Aug. 24, 2021

Good afternoon °®¶¹´«Ã½ students,

Today, the provincial health officer announced a new mask mandate to support increasing indoor activity this fall. Effective tomorrow - Wednesday, August 25, 2021 - masks must again be worn in all indoor public spaces throughout B.C. regardless of vaccine status.

For °®¶¹´«Ã½ campuses, this means masks are now required at all times in common areas, regardless of distance. This includes all indoor or in-vehicle teaching spaces/classrooms.

What do °®¶¹´«Ã½ students need to know right now?

1. Masks are required effective August 25, 2021, until further notice.

2. Masks must be worn regardless of vaccine status.

3. Masks must be worn in all common areas of all °®¶¹´«Ã½ campuses.

4. Masks must be worn in all indoor teaching spaces including vehicles at °®¶¹´«Ã½ or indoor in-community training situations.

5. Masks must cover the nose and mouth and fit closely. A face shield alone is not adequate.

6. Masks may be removed temporarily in indoor public places to consume food or beverage at a location designated for this purpose such as a cafeteria. Masks should be replaced immediately after eating.

The government announced another new PHO order yesterday that introduces requirements for verifying vaccine status before allowing access to discretionary activities. We will share more about what this means for °®¶¹´«Ã½ as information becomes available. The mask order will be reassessed once the new , is fully implemented.

We will communicate with you again once we receive updated Return to Campus Guidelines from the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training.

Stay well.

Sincerely,

Tanya Petreman CRSP
Senior Manager, Health, Safety and Emergency Management
