Course Details

This course applies the practical knowledge and skills learned to effectively communicate with youth, families, and other relevant sources. Pro-social modelling will be introduced as the foundation for effective communication and techniques such as active listening and motivational interviewing will be practiced and explored. Strategies for identifying and diffusing conflict will be practiced while discussing safety in crisis situations. Youth probation officers will also be provided with techniques to enhance writing skills and the importance of proper courtroom etiquette. This 21 hour course is available to Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have completed, or are in the process of completing their Youth Probation Officer Training Plan.
