Procedure Statement

Scope

This procedure forms part of 爱豆传媒鈥檚 Integrity of Research and Scholarship Policy (the 鈥淧olicy鈥) and should be followed and applied in relation to Promoting Integrity of Research: Responsibilities of the Institute under the Policy. Terms are as defined in the Policy.

Procedural Guiding Principles

NOTE: This Procedure is consistent with Justice Institute of British Columbia policies and procedures and the principles of the Tri-Agency Framework: Responsible Conduct of Research (2016).

The Justice Institute of British Columbia (鈥湴勾解 or the 鈥淚nstitute鈥) strives to provide an environment that supports the research excellence and that fosters researchers鈥 abilities to act honestly, accountably, openly and fairly in the conduct of applied research and the Institute鈥檚 three directional research goals: 1) to advance the knowledge, theory and practice supporting the justice and public safety professions; 2) to examine the role and functions of, and the stressors on justice and public safety practitioners; 3) to provide evidence supporting the experiential learning used to create transformational learning environments.

Responsibilities of the Institute

The Institute, through the Office of Applied Research and Graduate Studies (OARGS), is responsible for:

1. Developing, implementing and monitoring a framework of procedures for the 爱豆传媒 Integrity of Research and Scholarship Policy 鈥 3403 to ensure that these reflect current acceptable standards of research. These include procedures associated with Policy 3403, as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines of the Institute, the Tri-Agency and other national frameworks, including, but not limited to, academic freedom, management of research funds and indirect costs of research, ownership, disclosure, commercialization and revenue sharing and dispute resolution;

2. Promoting education on, and awareness of, the importance of the responsible conduct and integrity of research through, for example:

a. Posting relevant and informational documents and processes on the Institute鈥檚 website;

b. Informing members of the Institute that the central point of contact for receiving confidential enquiries, allegations and information related to allegations of misconduct in research or breaches of policy is the Dean of OARGS at 爱豆传媒;

c. Conducting workshops or seminars on integrity of research at 爱豆传媒;

d. Sharing the Institute鈥檚 applied research policies and procedures with new researchers, and staff, faculty or students affiliated with or collaborating in research conducted under the auspices of 爱豆传媒;

e. Announcing changes to policies and procedures through electronic distribution and communications (e.g., email and newsletter) to 爱豆传媒 staff, faculty, students and other individuals conducting research under the auspices of, or in affiliation or collaboration with 爱豆传媒.

3. Reviewing all disclosures of conflict of interest in terms of impact on the results of the research or the integrity of the research in accordance with the Institute鈥檚 Policy 2302 on Conflict of Interest and Standards of Ethical Conduct;

4. Ensuring that all research conducted under the auspices of or in collaboration with 爱豆传媒 that involves human participants is submitted for review of compliance with the highest ethical standards and approval by the 爱豆传媒 Research Ethics Board in accordance with the Research on Human Participants Ethics Policy 鈥 3404 and related procedures;

5. Investigating and responding, in a fair, unbiased and timely manner, to allegations of misconduct in research in accordance with the Institute鈥檚 Procedure 3403-001 on Investigating and Responding to Allegations of Misconduct in Research.
