Course Details

Shipboard fires are one of the most dangerous types of incidents a firefighter may ever face. An incident such as this has many complex issues to overcome, which if not correctly controlled may have disastrous consequences. Students will explore in this 28 hour course some of the challenges that can be faced, including, but not limited to: limited access issues, dealing with a 100% steel structure, stability and a capsizing potential, hazardous cargo, confined spaces, hazmat situations, and the sheer size of the vessel. The prerequisite of this course is NFPA 1001-Level II. District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services requested °®¶¹´«Ã½ develop custom/specialized training with a blended delivery model that addressed Shipboard Firefighting for Land Based Firefighters. The curriculum was developed in accordance to the NFPA 1005 Standard and does not have any evaluations or certification.
