Course Details

Wilderness Survival for GSAR focuses on the fundamental survival skills necessary for SAR volunteers working in a wilderness environment. In a hands-on learning environment, students practice fire starting, signaling techniques, and shelter building techniques using resources found in the wilderness. Topics covered also include the psychology of survival, wildlife and botanical threat awareness, food and water collection, and waste disposal. The overnight component provides an opportunity for students to practice and experience a wilderness survival scenario
